After connecting: start the warm-up and set the signature

Your mailbox is connected. Two settings are left to do in Emelia, once and for all, before your first campaign: start the warm-up and set a signature. Both happen in the same place, on the mailbox's row, on the Accounts page.

Where these settings live

In the left-hand menu, open Accounts. Every connected mailbox has its own row there, with three columns that matter here: Signature, Tracking (the tracking domain) and Warmup. The settings are the same whether your mailbox is Google, Microsoft or SMTP.

  • 1Set signature: create or pick the mailbox's signature.
  • 2Set tracking: declare the tracking domain.
  • 3The Warmup switch and the warm-up health score.

Got several mailboxes? No need to set them up one by one: tick them in the left-hand column, and a bulk action bar appears above the table, with Enable warmup, Apply signature and Apply tracking. Each page has the details.

1. Start the warm-up

Warm-up has your mailbox exchange emails with other mailboxes, ramping up gradually, to build its reputation. You turn it on with one click on the switch in the Warmup column, and it needs to run for two to three weeks before a new mailbox's first campaign. So it is the first thing to do: every day counts.

2. Set the signature

You create a signature once and apply it to as many mailboxes as you like. Keep it plain: first name, last name, job title, and one link at most. Above all, remember that it only shows up in your emails if you insert it into the campaign message.

What you set at your host, not in Emelia

Two deliverability settings are not done in Emelia but in your domain's DNS zone, at the host that manages it. They sit in the guide's appendices, because several paths lead back to them.

  • SPF, DKIM and DMARC, your domain's authentication. It is normally set up when you create the mailbox at your host. If it is not done yet, do it before turning on warm-up: that is when Emelia checks these records.
  • The tracking domain, a CNAME record to add at your host, then declare in the mailbox's Tracking column. It routes your links, open pixel and unsubscribe link through your own domain.

Frequently asked questions

The questions we get asked on this topic, answered briefly.

In what order should I do these settings?

Domain authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) first, ideally as soon as you create the mailbox at your host. Then warm-up, as early as possible, since it needs two to three weeks. The signature and the tracking domain can be done while the warm-up runs, before the first campaign.

Do I have to redo these settings for every mailbox?

Warm-up, signature and tracking domain are set per mailbox, but you can apply them to several mailboxes at once by ticking them on the Accounts page. DNS authentication is done once per domain name: every mailbox on that domain benefits.

Do these settings change with Google, Microsoft or SMTP mailboxes?

No. Once the mailbox is connected, warm-up, signature and tracking domain work exactly the same way. Only the DNS authentication values depend on your email provider.
