Connect your LinkedIn account with the Chrome extension

If the LinkedIn account is yours and you work in Google Chrome, the extension picks up your LinkedIn session in one click. Installing it, getting ready, connecting: it is all here.

The extension is called SN Assistant, and that is misleading

The name comes from where it started: it was first used to export lists from Sales Navigator. Do not let that put you off, it does far more. It is what connects your LinkedIn account to Emelia with this method, what adds the Export with Emelia button to your Sales Navigator searches, and what shows an Emelia button on LinkedIn profiles to find an email address or a phone number.

You will find it here: SN Assistant on the Chrome Web Store. It is also the page the Download extension button opens inside Emelia.

ℹ︎ Extension or credentials?

For connecting the account alone, the email and password method remains the most stable. The extension takes over when LinkedIn blocks a credentials sign-in, for instance with a captcha, and it is still required to export from Sales Navigator.

Step 1: add it from the Chrome Web Store

Open the extension's page in Google Chrome, from the link above or from Emelia. Click Add to Chrome, then confirm with Add extension in the window Chrome shows you.

ℹ︎ What Chrome asks you to accept

Chrome lists what the extension can read. It needs access to linkedin.com, to pick up your LinkedIn session, and to emelia.io, to pass it on to your workspace. That is exactly what lets it plug in the account without you typing a password.

Step 2: pin it to the toolbar

Optional, but handy. Click the jigsaw-piece icon at the top right of Chrome, then the pin next to SN Assistant. Its icon then stays visible at all times: you can see at a glance that the extension is installed and active.

Step 3: sign in to LinkedIn in the same Chrome

The extension reads the LinkedIn session open in the browser where it is installed. Before plugging in the account, open a tab on linkedin.com and sign in with the account you want to connect, in the same Chrome, and in the same Chrome profile if you use several: each profile has its own extensions.

Stay signed in to Emelia in that Chrome as well. Otherwise, on a LinkedIn profile, the extension's panel will ask you to sign in (“Log in to my account”): that is your Emelia account, not LinkedIn.

Step 4: plug the account into Emelia

In Accounts, click Connect LinkedIn, then With the extension. You will see one of three screens:

  • Extension not detected: the extension is not installed, or the Emelia page was opened before you installed it. Click Download extension if needed, then I've installed it: Emelia reloads the page and reopens this step directly.
  • No account found: the extension is there, but no LinkedIn session is open in this Chrome. Sign in to LinkedIn in another tab, then come back: Emelia searches again on its own, or click Retry.
  • Extension detected!: Emelia shows the account it found, with its name and photo. Check it is the right one, especially if you juggle several accounts, then click Connect.

⚠︎ Never sign out of LinkedIn in that browser

Closing the LinkedIn tab is no problem, nor is shutting down your computer: campaigns run on our servers. But the connection rests on your browser session. If you click “Sign out” in LinkedIn, the session is closed and the account has to be reconnected.

✦ Several accounts: one Chrome profile each

Since the connection follows your session, never run several accounts in the same Chrome by signing out between each one. Keep one Chrome profile per LinkedIn account, or use email and password, which do not depend on your browser.

What else the extension does

On a Sales Navigator search results page, it adds the Export with Emelia button, which sends the search into a lead list: see exporting from Sales Navigator.

On a LinkedIn profile, a floating Emelia button opens a panel that looks for the email address and phone number of the person shown. It uses credits, just like the email search.

Frequently asked questions

The questions we get asked on this topic, answered briefly.

Does the extension work on Firefox, Safari or Edge?

We support it on Google Chrome only. On another browser, connect your account with email and password: no extension is needed.

I installed the extension but Emelia does not see it

Reload the Emelia page, or click “I've installed it”: detection happens on load. If nothing changes, check in Chrome's extensions menu that SN Assistant is enabled, and that an old version is not installed alongside it: remove the old one and keep the latest.

Do I need to keep the extension once the account is connected?

The account stays connected without it: the session is kept on our side. Keep it anyway if you want to reconnect the account with this method, export from Sales Navigator or look up contact details from a profile.

How do I uninstall the extension?

In Chrome, open the extensions menu (the jigsaw-piece icon), click the three dots next to SN Assistant, then “Remove from Chrome”.

Do I have to leave my computer on?

No. Once the account is connected, sequences run from our servers. You can close Chrome and shut the machine down. The one thing not to do is sign out of LinkedIn in the browser used for the connection.
